Monday update: Stars still waiting on Benn immigration paperwork, Jagr in, Roy out

Stars forward Jamie Benn is ready to play tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets, now it’s just a matter of getting his immigration paper work completed so he’ll be eligible for the game. (Update: Benn’s paper work was approved Monday afternoon and he will play)

“I know Mark Janko (Stars hockey operations) is working on it, and he’s probably working his butt off,” Benn said. “I am going to find out later in the afternoon.”

The Stars need to have it wrapped up by 5 p.m. Eastern Time/4 p.m. Central Time to get Benn on the active roster for tonight’s game.

If Benn does play, he’ll be centering a line with Loui Eriksson on the left wing and Jaromir Jagr on the right wing.

“I think we all know what those guys can do out there and they are two pretty special players,” Benn said. “Hopefully we can find chemistry early and get this thing rolling.”

Jagr, who missed Saturday’s game with a back/hip issue is in for tonight’s game. He hasn’t played with Benn, doesn’t know much about him but likes what he sees.

“I think for Dallasites, they don’t have to worry about the future,” Jagr said. “He’s a pretty good player. It was good for the Dallas organization and the city that they were able to sign him for the longer term. He’s a big guy, and from what I saw his hands are quick. That’s very important.”

Defense shuffling

The Stars are shuffling the defense pairs for Monday’s game in Columbus. Stephane Robidas and Brenden Dillon are expected to be paired together as are Alex Goligoski and Philip Larsen. Jordie Benn and Trevor Daley, who played together the first four games, will be another pair.

“We switched around some pairs. It’s nothing permanent. Goose and Lars played together most of last season,” Gulutzan said. “Felt we were taking in some shots, and the bottom line is we’ve got to start winning some more battles.”

Roy still out

Derek Roy, who missed Saturday’s game with a groin injury, remains out. He did not make the trip and is unlikely to play in Detroit Tuesday.

Defenseman Aaron Rome didn’t travel with the team due to coming down ill. He is unlikely to play in Detroit as well.

Projected lineup (if Jamie Benn plays)
